Theme 2: Just and Sustainable Cities
With the increase in urban population and the complexity of human settlements worldwide, it is necessary to develop proposals that promote social, spatial, economic, cultural, political and environmental justice with a multi-scalar view (metropolis, municipality, city, locality, neighbourhood). Preference will be given to proposals with the following approaches:
-
Spatial justice: ensuring equitable access to housing, water and basic services with urban planning models and projects that prioritise social and economic inclusion.
-
Urban governance: encouraging public participation in decision-making and co-design and implementation processes to promote social cohesion and ensure public policies that respond to community needs.
-
Heritage preservation: safeguarding tangible and intangible heritage, from built environments to life-sustaining natural resources and cultural traditions.
-
Urban mobility: planning from a perspective of intermodality to achieve equity, efficiency and sustainability in the mobility of people and goods in urban environments.
-
Public spaces and green areas: promoting and managing public spaces, urban green areas and green infrastructure to create more sustainable urban environments and increase the capacity to provide ecosystem-based services.
-
Circularity: implementing regional-scale circular models and peri-urban agriculture systems to ensure fair and sustainable food production and consumption in cities.
