Professor Camarena has a Bachelor's Degree in Biology and a Master's Degree in Science and Technology with a specialization in Productive Biology, from the Center for Research and Assistance in Technology and Design of the State of Jalisco.
He has experience in the development of productive biotechnology projects, especially in the use of microalgae to obtain products of interest for the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetics industries. He has participated in the creation of biotechnology-based companies and has consulted on the fundraising process, the design of microorganism production plants, the design of culturing media, among others. His areas of interest include microalgae biotechnology, lab culturing, production scaling, optimization, the extraction and analysis of industrially-relevant metabolites, as well as vegetable biotechnology, the optimization of culturing media and traditional genetic improvement using biotechnological techniques. He has coordinated the Undergraduate Program in Biotechnological Engineering at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO) since 2014.
